Israeli spooks seek startups to boost tech skills in search for better security

“Like I said ladies and gentlemen… the greatest discovery since fire… for the first time in human history the power of the Sun has been brought down to the surface of planet Earth… not a just a technological revolution in clean, unlimited and EXPLOSIVE energy derived from the hydrogen atom, but also in chemical compounds, electron ‘orbitality’, synthetic materials with vast array of properties… a new understanding of atomic structure, biology and chemistry, proteins, biological molecules, drugs and genetics, gravity and potentially anti-gravity, the Universe… … erm… well… the possibilities are endless!” ;D

Israeli spooks seek startups to boost tech skills in search for better security

Shin Bet security agency to open a second accelerator program with Tel Aviv University for entrepreneurs with promising tech in AI, cybersecurity, fintech and robotics

Israel’s security agency, the Shin Bet, is calling on startups to join an accelerator program it has set up with the venture arm of the Tel Aviv University in its bid to tap into new technologies ranging from artificial intelligence to cybersecurity to fintech.
This is the second accelerator program run by the secret service together with TAU ventures, after it selected seven Israeli startups earlier this year mainly in the field of artificial intelligence. In the new program, for which entrepreneurs can register until December 30, nine startups in various stages of development will be selected, in the fields of AI, cybersecurity, fintech and robotics.

The program is intended for early entrepreneurs who have proof of technological feasibility for their products and are not necessarily for the defense market. The startups will be chosen by a joint committee of professionals from the Shin Bet and TAU Ventures, and will receive a $50,000 grant from the security agency, without requesting equity or other restrictions in return.

“Following the success of the first program we have decided to deepen our collaboration with TAU ventures, to unveil additional technologies in different verticals,” said Nadav Argaman, the Shin Bet chief, in a statement. “We believe in the strength of Israel’s technology industry, in its entrepreneurs and its extraordinary capabilities and their products, which are already affecting the capabilities of the Shin Bet and its activities in safeguarding the nation.”

The startups that will take part in the program will benefit from mentoring by technology and other experts in the agency as well as Tel Aviv University. The companies will also be able to test out their technologies within the framework of the agency and get feedback.
As security threats multiply — both in the real and virtual spheres — Israel’s security agencies, the Shin Bet and the Mossad, have been stepping out of the shadows and seeking collaborations with the private sector.
The Shin Bet did not say whether it used or invested in any of the seven startups it selected for the previous accelerator program. “The Shin Bet cannot say what technologies it uses, but is definitely interested in some of the technologies” that took part in the program, it said in a text message.

ISRAEL’S ENERGY FUTURE
(ISRAPUNDIT)

– By Bertram Cohen bert99@peoplepc.com

Israel’s energy future is currently following two paths. One path is to develop the large oil and gas fields located off shore. The second is to develop oil-free energy technologies. But the path with the most potential, by far, is a third path. It is not yet on the Israeli agenda because that path remains overlooked, underestimated and may also appear too futuristic. Trying to alert Israeli energy officials to this message, only with emails from America, has proven too difficult for me. The purpose of this paper is to find an Israeli volunteer(s) willing to be my informed messenger(s) to reach Israeli energy officials, more directly.

After identifying the first two energy paths, this paper will focus on the third path.

1. New oil and gas fields

The recent discovery of huge oil and gas fields off shore enables Israel to become energy independent and earn income from energy exports. Developing these fields is expensive and can also raise political tensions with Turkey and Lebanon which also have made territorial claims. Israel’s adversaries, who profit from their oil and gas, will still be earning huge incomes to continue funding their hostility.

2. Oil-free energy – certainly helpful but still short of the ideal solution.
EV & Energy Storage, Oil-Free Business to Business Initiatives

Conference at Daniel Hotel, Herzelia, Israel – Wednesday, 30/05/2012

The event is also a part of the “2nd Israeli Power Sources Conference” (Batteries, Fuel cells and EV) Solar is another oil-free energy source.

PM Netanyahu’s important energy announcement. Israel to Invest NIS 2B in Alternative Fuels 20 September 2010

At this week’s Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a new NIS 2 Billion initiative to develop alternative fuels, calling it a “national goal of the highest importance.”

3. The third path – Advanced energy technologies for an energy revolution

This category is, by far, the most advanced but it remains largely unknown. This third category represents entire families of advanced energy technologies which: consume no fuel; produce no emissions; are nearly cost free; are totally safe and produce unlimited energy on demand. They are scalable from huge industrial and community size down to a home and car size. This is NOT perpetual motion but free energy similar to wind and solar which also produces free energy. The electric grid would no longer be needed along with its added costs and its vulnerabilities to disruption by nature or by man. This category can totally eliminate oil for energy along with eliminating natural gas, coal and nuclear energy.

An attempted breakthrough – In early 2009 a group of top scientists with the Orion Project sent an urgent memorandum to Obama, and the entire congress, proposing to develop one of these advanced energy technologies in 18 months. There has been no official response to this day.

However, there was an unofficial response. The scientists received anonymous phone calls threatening them. Fearing for their safety, they resigned.

We have the prospect of advanced energy technologies that can transform the world but every attempt to do so is blocked by the powerful special interests.

Without the suppression we would have been free of oil, coal, natural gas and nuclear power many years ago. Iran would have no oil income and no pretext claiming to seek nuclear power. The center of energy suppression appears to be the U.S. government which also appears to exercise a global reach. To placate the American public the government spends billions researching conventional energy while allowing only limited progress. This creates the illusion that there is freedom to invent. Meanwhile big energy still dominates 80% of the U.S. energy market with little prospect of significant change in the foreseeable future. Allowing a single breakthrough would bankrupt the entire global energy establishment. This is why no one is allowed to succeed.

The potential of advanced energy is revolutionary. Global energy costs would decline dramatically and free up massive capital for economic improvement. Everyone would have access to cheap energy. Cheap energy would reduce the cost to desalinate the oceans. Cheap water plus cheap energy means growing more local food at lower cost thereby reducing dependence on imports. More national self-sufficiency for energy, water and food reduces three major causes for conflict. Eliminating fossil fuels would dramatically reduce CO2 greenhouse emissions. Everyone wins except the energy barons and the special interests.
The internet contains voluminous information about various breakthrough energy technologies, patent numbers, individual inventors, and how governments collude with special interests. The suppression is aided by a media blackout. Successful suppression depends on their never failing. We need to win only once and they are destroyed.

Can Israel succeed where others have failed? Against big energy the lone inventor or small company has no chance. But they too, like Goliath, have their vulnerabilities. There is more than one way to reverse the odds and win. It would be quite something if tiny Israel could neutralize the Arab Oil Weapon and free all humanity from enslavement to big energy. Israel has more than enough technical capability to accomplish this once the leadership can understand the potential.

What is needed now – It is difficult to write directly to Israeli energy officials, offering an unfamiliar, futuristic-sounding story, and be taken seriously. I already tried. What is needed now is an informed messenger in Israel. He or she would be fully briefed by me and then be prepared to approach Israeli energy officials directly. Technical expertise is not required.

It is urgent to move now. Even the announcement of an early breakthrough will start collapsing the oil market, diminishing Iran’s oil revenues and ending the pretext of their needing nuclear power.

Randell Mills and the Search for Hydrino Energy by Brett Holverstott – Luke Setzer (SoloPassion)

Submitted by Luke Setzer on Fri, 2016-09-09 12:17

Objectivists should read this book for two reasons. First, the author traces the ill effects of Immanuel Kant through the centuries to contemporary science. Second, given the current situation with global terror funded by Arab oil money, this book should interest political wonks as well as science geeks. The author never touches this particular implication of long-term defunding of terrorism by abandoning oil, but astute readers will see it immediately. This book review is also posted on Amazo.

For decades, Dr. Randell Mills has flummoxed both supporters and detractors with his dogged determination not only to prove the existence of a new state of hydrogen, the hydrino, but also to harness its power for the betterment of the human condition. I have followed the hydrino story since initially encountering it in a Mensa Bulletin letter in the late 1990s. Brett Holverstott, whose “scientific realism” philosophy should resonate with Objectivists, first caught word of Mills via a Webzine article entitled “The John Galt of Quantum Mechanics?” that I published about Mills at The Daily Objectivist on December 1, 1999. As a very young man, Holverstott found himself intrigued not only by the new science, but also by the controversy and politics centered on it. The intrigue motivated him to pursue a dual degree in chemistry and physics at Reed College in Oregon while occasionally referring to Mills’s massive tome, The Grand Unified Theory of Classical Quantum Mechanics, for contrast and insight against his classroom textbooks.

After three years of undergraduate school, Holverstott had the privilege of working directly for Mills as a laboratory science intern for 18 months in the mid-2000s, and continued to work remotely in subsequent years on the Millsian molecular modeling software. The experience left him firmly convinced of the reality of the hydrino, its motivating theory of classical physics on all scales, its more deeply underlying philosophical view of scientific realism, and the value of entrepreneurship. In fact, these last two discernments so moved Holverstott that he changed majors to philosophy, completed a thesis on scientific realism to graduate, and then completed graduate school in architecture to achieve his current career in that field. This total immersion of the author over his formative adult years into the Mills saga gives the author excellent grounding for a lucid, exhaustively researched, directly experiential story about Mills and his work.

Although Mills has for many years posted his ever-growing tome at no charge on the Web site of his company, Brilliant Light Power, most lay readers will find it far too dense to follow. This book by Holverstott offers a superb overview, in accessible language, of the salient points of the theory and its supporting experiments and empirical data. In addition, the biographical aspects of Mills as shared from the perspectives of the man himself and those who know him illuminate the motives behind his endless drive and boundless energy.

While Holverstott clearly admires Mills, he never makes the mistake of slipping into sycophantic adulation for the man. Mills has gained notoriety over many years for excessively optimistic forecasts of commercial viability of his discoveries, only to have projected milestones come and go with no product in sight. Holverstott justifiably takes Mills to task for this and other marketing blunders that only further provoke critics to blast him with any number of epithets ranging from incompetent to self-deluded to fraud. Holverstott assures the reader that he never saw any direct evidence of any of these, but understands how critics can see Mills posture himself in ways that leave him vulnerable to such attacks.

Between 2000 and 2010, with assistance from other fans of Mills, I formed and ran the Hydrino Study Group discussion list mentioned occasionally in the book. My initial vision in 2000 was for supporters and detractors to reach a civilized exchange and eventual agreement within about six months. Much as with the overly optimistic projections of Mills, my own projections failed to come to fruition even with a greatly extended timeline. As Holverstott notes repeatedly in his book, established scientists are human, and humans resist change. So the arguments generally circled endlessly and went nowhere, though both sides wished to continue debating even after I repeatedly asked if a list split would suit all better. After ten years, the other moderators and I found better things to do and closed the forum. Fortunately for interested parties, Mills participates in his own discussion forum, the Society for Classical Physics, available at no charge on his company Web site. Expect no critics tolerated there, however.

I currently cross my fingers without holding my breath that the SunCell in 2017 will indeed prove itself the “smoking gun” Mills has long sought to demonstrate at last the truth of the hydrino on a wide scale. A clean, cheap, limitless, decentralized power source will solve a myriad of current problems facing the human species. A cogent, reality-oriented physical theory will solve many others.

Read this book and tell all your friends to do the same. If they like it, have them also read America’s Newton: The Reception of the Work of Randell Mills, in Historical and Contemporary Context by Thomas Stolper, a book I hope Stolper updates and re-publishes soon to capture the latest aspects of the Mills narrative. For further insights into the philosophical corruption of physics that led to what Holverstott calls “The Quantum Quagmire,” read The Logical Leap: Induction in Physics by David Harriman.

The Chinese state want to take over the world using Quantum Mechanics?… good luck with that! :D (thanks Snowden!)

“I’m not being racist!… I just find the Chinese terribly annoying. Example… you’ll be walking through London, efficiently getting from A to B in a quick and orderly fashion, and the someone in front of you will just stop! Un-expectantly, for absolutely no fecking reason at all… best believe they’ll be Chinese.

And they’re always lost! Always… no fecking idea as to where they’re going! But yet they’re always looking on they’re phone… are they on Google maps or playing fecking Pokemon? :/

AND THEN! :I The most irritating thing about them, you get on a train, and thirty plus Chinese students have managed to get lost, in the middle of a single fecking carriage, complete with all their luggage… just stuck in the centre of the carriage with two pieces of  luggage each, not knowing what to do next.
“Sowwy” “Sowwy” “Sowwy”… STOP APOLOGISING AND GET THE LUGGAGE OUT THE FECKING WAY AND FIND YOU’RE FECKING SEAT!

Yeah anyway, I personally don’t believe the Chinese state has any idea that Quantum Mechanics is the biggest load of tosh of the past 100 years… they seem to be making all these fantastic claims of Quantum computing, Quantum communication, Quantum Encryption, Quantum cryptography, Quantum Satellites, … newest one being Quantum radar.

If Quantum theory is proven to be incorrect, China is going to Quantumly fucked!

I suspect the US military complex and Western Elites are secretly pissing themselves in hysterical fits of laughter (I am)… go ahead China… go build the planets biggest tin doughnut, I mean ‘supercollider’.

(It’s not like I haven’t tried telling them… they’re so bloody paranoid, they thought I trying to throw them a strawman.)

Saying that…. was Mills’ newest scientific publication not in a Chinese journal? :/

Why China’s perfectly placed to be quantum computing’s superpower

The quantum race is on. As technological advancements progress, expect nations to be more secretive about their capabilities. At the forefront is China, which is pouring billions in quantum tech.

In August 2016, China sent the world’s first quantum satellite into space from a launchpad in the Gobi Desert. Micius, which circles the earth at an altitude of 500km, is a powerful signal of intent – a starting gun for the technological race that could define the next century.

The quantum realm

In 2013, Snowden’s leaks from the NSA revealed the full extent of the US intelligence services capabilities and activities in China. Analysis by the Washington think-tank link url=”https://s3.amazonaws.com/files.cnas.org/documents/CNASReport-Quantum-Tech_FINAL.pdf?mtime=20180912133406″%5DCentre for a New American Security[/link] says these revelations spooked the Chinese government into a search for new, home-grown cybersecurity solutions.

That’s why the bulk of China’s initial progress has been in the field of secure quantum communications – through projects such as Micius, as well as a ground-based quantum network in the northern province of Shandong. “In the field of quantum communications we are ahead of our colleagues over the world,” says Pan, who has said his work was given new impetus and urgency by Snowden’s disclosures.

The U.S-China race for quantum dominance

As the U.S. and China struggle for dominance in artificial intelligence, they are locked in a parallel, behind-the-scenes race to master quantum technology, a contest that could result in lasting military superiority and a possible new industrial revolution.

The big picture: Though still far off, conquering quantum technology could enable uncrackable communications, supercharged radar and more deadly undersea warfare. And as of now, China has some serious advantages.

A new report from the Center for a New American Security draws on open-source material for a window into China’s quantum progress and aspirations.
•The report’s authors, Elsa Kania and John Costello, say that China has made substantial advances in some areas of quantum research, putting it in a position to overtake the U.S. in the science.
•Chinese advantages include a national vision for technological research, significant investments, and tight bonds between the private sector and the military. By comparison, the U.S. yet to enact a quantum policy, though the White House recently added a quantum expert to its tech-policy staff.
•”China’s advances in quantum science could impact the future military and strategic balance, perhaps even leapfrogging traditional U.S. military–technological advantages,” write Kania and Costello.

How it works: Quantum technology capitalizes on the unusual properties of super-tiny particles to surpass what’s possible with normal, or “classical,” computing. Among its applications:
•Quantum cryptography, a leap over current techniques that would be nearly impossible to crack — and render modern encryption obsolete.
•Quantum computing, which promises to enormously accelerate computing, a breakthrough whose effects would be felt across the economy.

Quantum supremacy — the moment when quantum computers will be more capable than classical ones — is still well out of reach, but researchers in both countries are pushing aggressively in that direction.
•Kania and Costello argue that Chinese progress on quantum cryptography is world-class, demonstrated by the launch of the first-ever quantum satellite in 2016.
•While China lags on research into quantum computing, it’s quickly catching up.

Among the spoils of conquering the quantum space are computers that could decipher most of the world’s encrypted data, like the NSA’s store of intercepted communications, and overcome the U.S. stealth technologies on which the military heavily relies.

How they got here: China had a “Sputnik moment” in 2013, igniting a national plan that funnels billions of dollars and top scientists into quantum research, the authors write.
•Its unlikely instigator was Edward Snowden, whose leaks revealed the extent of U.S. spying in China, and sparked a feverish response meant to shore up China’s protections against cyber-espionage.
•This inflection point mirrors another three years later: An Obama Administration report outlining a future U.S. artificial intelligence policy. Afterward, Beijing scrambled to put together its own, far outstripping American planning, while the Trump administration has neither engaged Obama’s policy nor formulated its own.

China may have developed a quantum radar that can spot stealth planes

A company claims to have created a quantum radar that can detect stealth aircraft and see through the radar jamming used to hide warplanes.

Defence giant China Electronics Technology Group Corporation displayed the prototype at the Zhuhai air show last week.

Stealth aircraft avoid detection by redirecting most of a radar system’s radio waves, which usually reflect off their surface and reveal their location.

China’s quantum development plan is aggressive, and Donald Trump wants one just like it

After breakthroughs by Chinese scientists over the past decade, Washington issues commitment to ‘maintaining American leadership in quantum information science’ (sssshhhh! This is funny! :D)

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And after observing China’s state-led push to become a world leader in the field of quantum technology, it seems the United States is about to pay Beijing a considerable compliment and follow suit.

For about a decade China has been committed to increasing its capabilities in the field. In that time it has funded major projects, brought scientists from across the country to work together and encouraged students to enter the field.

While this high level of government involvement has led to a number of breakthroughs for China, it also stands in stark contrast to the low-key approach adopted by the US in the period.

But according to a document released by Washington earlier this week, that could all be about to change.
(he he he he! sssshhh!)

China’s Quest To Become A Quantum Superpower

China’s Quantum Future

Xi’s Quest to Build a High-Tech Superpower
By Elsa B. Kania

China should be a “global leader in innovation” by 2035, President Xi Jinping declared during the Chinese Communist Party’s 19th National Congress last October. His remarks reflected a core strategic ambition: After decades of reliance upon foreign technology, Xi’s China aspires not only to catch up with the West’s technological development but to surpass it—through a national strategy for “innovation-driven” development.

China’s trajectory in quantum science—which leverages principles of quantum mechanics to create disruptive, perhaps transformative technologies—will be a key test of Xi’s ambitions. Beijing is striving to become a world leader in quantum technology through large-scale state-guided investments, which may total tens of billions of dollars in the years to come. Under its 13th five-year plan, introduced in 2016, China has launched a “megaproject” for quantum communications and computing, which aims to achieve major breakthroughs in these technologies by 2030, including the expansion of China’s national quantum communications infrastructure, the development of a general quantum computer prototype, and the construction of a practical quantum simulator. China is also building the National Laboratory for Quantum Information Sciences, which, with over $1 billion in initial funding, could emerge as a key center of gravity for future research and development.

Will China succeed in its plans to pioneer advances in quantum technology?
(probably not)

China is building a massive multi-location national-level quantum laboratory

During the 8th International Conference on Quantum Cryptography which took place in Shanghai last week, China announced to be in the progress of building a new multi-location quantum information lab, local media Yicai (in Chinese) reports.

According to the announcement, the new lab will integrate resources in different regions including Hefei in Anhui province, Shanghai, and Beijing. The lab’s branch in Hefei called the National Laboratory for Quantum Information Sciences started construction in 2017 and will cover a land area of 86 acres (362,667 square meters) by completion. It aims to accelerate quantum R&D and application with the help of University of Science and Technology of China also located in the area.

An insider from the university told Yicai that the program has received a funding of around RMB 1 billion from Anhui’s provincial government and Shanghai’s municipal government. The insider added that the state will invest over RMB 100 billion as a long-term supporter.

The Hefei lab received $10 billion from the local government in 2017, according to reports. The new RMB 1 billion is likely to be a bonus financing to upgrade existing infrastructure and enhance the connection between different branches.

In September 2017, China launched a quantum fiber link connecting four major cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Jinan, and Hefei. The link is also using China’s Micius, the world’s first quantum communication satellite. Partners of the link project include the State Grid Corporation of China, the country’s state-owned electricity utility company.

Additionally, Alibaba jointly established a Shanghai-based quantum computation lab with the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The company also participated in the International Conference on Quantum Cryptography this year.

Increasing quantum investment in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hefei area appears as a strengthening of resources and an aggressive move to accelerate the field’s development in order to stay ahead of a global game which is now led by China and the US.

On June 27 this year, the US passed the National Quantum Initiative Act (H. R. 6227), promising a 10-year federal effort to boost quantum science as well as a $1.3 billion budget to support the country’s quantum computation projects between 2019 and 2023. Prior to the Act, government investment in quantum research was around $200 million per year, according to the latest 2016 data—far behind China’s state-backed financing.

Scientist claims dark matter-powered device can create nearly limitless energy

New Jersey scientist says his research is a revolution, but it flies in the face of accepted physics.
By Sam Newhouse
millssun

A scientist working in a lab in central New Jersey says he has discovered a nearly limitless source of energy that can solve the world’s energy problems.

There’s just one problem: most scientists think it’s baloney.

But Dr. Randell Mills, inventor of the Suncell, has no doubt that his device could change the world.

“It is the pinnacle of the quest for the ultimate power source,” said Dr. Mills during an interview at Brilliant Light Power’s laboratory. “It’s not a theory. What I did was just to take the natural laws, Newton’s laws from the 1600s and Maxwell’s laws from the 1800s, and use them to solve structurally what the atom is.”

The Suncell is based on Mills’ concept of the hydrino, which arises from his personal Grand Unified Theory of Classical Physics.

Hydrinos are created by compacting the orbital of electrons in the hydrogen atoms found in water, Mills said. This creates the hydrino, a form of dark matter, which releases tremendous light and energy, hotter than the surface of the sun. If captured through technology like solar panels, it could power cars, computers, home heating – everything, he believes.

What do other scientists have to say about it? “La-la land,” said one. “BS,” said another.
None agreed to go on the record discussing hydrinos. But their skepticism relates to the fact that the concept of the hydrino defies most of quantum mechanics and its understanding of subatomic particles.

No problem, Mills said. Quantum mechanics is wrong.

“I’m saying ‘physical laws apply to atoms.’ That’s provable,” he said. “They say the universe is pure math. … It’s like there’s some cabal of physicists that wants everybody to be stupid.”

Mills isn’t completely alone in his quest. Bucknell University professor and engineer Peter Mark Jansson ran experiments on the hydrino in 2010 at Rowan University, partly funded by Mills. He found the process was creating energy.

“There has got to be something in the reaction itself that creates this extremely high energy reaction,” Jansson said. “Dr. Mills and his scientists believe it is the hydrino formation. … They believe they’ve found the greatest discovery in recent history.”
Jansson argued that while Mills’ theories may not be accepted by mainstream science, he doesn’t think most scientists have given them a fair consideration.

“I have heard Nobel laureates say it’s a scam,” Jansson said. “How can you say that if you haven’t done an experiment and tried to prove whether or not these guys are onto something novel?”

For Mills, who has been toiling on his project for more than two decades, it’s just a matter of perfecting the technology. So far, the hydrino has blown up or melted most of the devices he used to create it, he said. But Brilliant Light Power aims to soon be marketing Suncells that can help heat homes.

“Early on, I was subject to a lot of attacks,” he acknowledged. “Now we’re just refining it, and we’ll have a first model of a heater product … We wouldn’t have to pollute as much. That should really accelerate our quality of life.”
