Israeli intelligence helped locate Iranian General Qassem Soleimani before we was killed by an American airstrike in Iraq, NBC News reported Saturday night.
The CIA knew exactly when the plane Soleimani was traveling on left for Iraq. Israeli intelligence confirmed these details to Americans on the night of the airstrike.
According to the report, the only world leader who likely knew about what was happening before the strike was Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who spoke to Pompeo before the attack.
Over the weekend, the Washington Post reported that on the day the United States eliminated Soleimani in Baghdad, American forces simultaneously conducted a secret operation against an Iranian military official in Yemen.
According to four knowledgeable sources in the details of the operation, the attack against Abdul Raza Shahlai, a senior Quds Force commander in the Revolutionary Guards that operated in Yemen, did not end in his death.
Trump said in an interview with Fox News that the decision to eliminate Soleimani was made following a warning about Iran’s intention to strike four American embassies. “We will tell you that probably it was going to be the embassy in Baghdad,” Trump said, adding: “I can reveal that I believe it probably would’ve been four embassies.”
Israeli intel used in US strike that killed Soleimani: report
Previously, Israeli officials argued Jewish state was not part of the story as far as Soleimani’s killing went
Israeli intelligence was used in a US air strike that killed Qasem Soleimani, powerful commander of Iran’s expeditionary Quds force, NBC News reported on Sunday.
According to the channel, Israeli intelligence “helped confirm the details” regarding Soleimani’s flight from the Syrian capital of Damascus to Iraq’s Baghdad on January 3, where he was eliminated in an overnight air raid.Play Video
The channel gives no further details on Jerusalem’s supposed involvement, which puts the question mark over its exact scale; earlier, Israeli officials strongly argued that Israel was not part of the story in regards to Soleimani’s killing.
Furthermore, the New York Times reported that caretaker Pm Benjamin Netanyahu was likely the only US ally in the region who got a heads-up about the strike, with Yisrael Beiteinu chief Avigdor Liberman saying Sunday the report was likely based on Israeli sources and urging the Jewish state to distance itself from the operation.
Citing interviews with two officials with direct knowledge of the operation, NBC News says that at the first stage, informants at the Damascus airport provided intelligence on Soleimani’s flight to Baghdad.

At this point, three US drones were already hovering up above, armed with Hellfire missiles and ready to eliminate a man who, as US President Trump said earlier, was likely planning attacks on four US embassies.
With little traffic on Baghdad’s roads, Soleimani’s convoy — one sedan carrying the general and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, founder of Iraq’s Kataeb Heznolalh militias, and a minivan with their entourage — headed out and went up in flames after four missiles were launched from the drones.
